Robert A. Poggie, Ph.D.
Robert A Poggie, Ph.D., started in the orthopedic industry in 1992, accumulating experience in applied research, regulatory affairs, clinical outcomes research and medical education. Dr. Poggie was instrumental in the research and development of Smith+Nephew’s Oxinium and Implex’s Hedrocel biomaterial, which is now trade named Trabecular Metal. Since 2009, Dr. Poggie has been a regulatory affairs, applied research, device testing and commercialization consultant through his firm, BioVera.
Prior to BioVera, Dr. Poggie was a Director at Zimmer TMT, where he managed applied research, regulatory and clinical affairs. He was responsible for numerous regulatory clearances for spinal, hip, knee and shoulder products with FDA and CE Mark, as well as the training materials for prospective surgeon users and sales associates. Prior to Zimmer, Dr. Poggie directed Applied Research and Regulatory Affairs for Implex and served as a Senior Research Engineer for Smith+Nephew. Dr. Poggie has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and presented globally as invited faculty for conferences and education courses. He earned a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science & Engineering, all from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
