NuVasive saw an opportunity with additive manufacturing. The only snag was that no one at the company possessed additive experience. Leadership knew that it needed to partner with a service and manufacturing provider for the additive manufacturing process. The result of that ultimate collaboration with 3D Systems was that NuVasive went from design to market in just over one year with the 2017 launch of Modulus®—now a full implant line. In this case study, NuVasive will present alongside 3D Systems, sharing—and answering—important design, regulatory, manufacturing and supply chain questions that orthopedic device manufacturers must ask prior to implementing additive, and lessons learned in collaboration with an outsource partner.
